James Higgins GBR, Japan and Australia all at the Northampton Trampoline Centre
This week the home of Northampton's & GBR James Higgins welcome both the Australian and Japanese National Trampoline Teams for their pre-World Championships preparation. The National trampoline team from Japan, including world medal athletes Masaki Ito, Tetsuya Sotomura & Yasuhiro Ueyama have chosen Northampton Trampoline Centre once again as part of their important preparation as they go on the hunt for Olympic qualification in Birmingham next week at the National Indoor Arena. The Japanese men's team are amongst the best in the world and will be challenging China, currently the world leaders, for medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Australian team arrived last Friday 4 November and have so far really enjoyed the world class facilities that are on offer at the Northampton Centre. They Aussies also had some down time and were thrilled to attend the bonfire and fireworks display in Pockets Park, Boughton, on Saturday 5 November and experience a UK tradition.
Both the Australian & Japanese teams are being accommodated at Kings Park Conference Centre, Moulton Park, so a double scoop for the town as we show off our excellent facilities.
"It is great to attract international teams to Northampton and our trampoline centre", says club director Tracy Whittaker-Smith. "4 times British Champion James Higgins, and myself, as coach, have been selected as part of the Great Britain team for the World Championships and we are really looking forward to the home World Championships next week. Having other international teams here with us this week helps our focus and reminds us of what's around the corner. Higgins has achieved 3 World Cup final (5th, 6th & 7th) positions this year and is in good shape leading in to the World Championships. However with over 120 male gymnasts competing for just the top 8 final places and Olympic qualification it will be a big challenge"
All delegations will depart Northampton to arrive in Birmingham on Monday 14November and the start of the all important Championships as this is the first qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic places.
